On behalf of Global Women, we are deeply saddened to hear of former National Party minister Nikki Kaye’s passing. Nikki was an inspirational and passionate woman with an unwavering dedication to her political career and to the organisations and causes she supported.
Despite her health challenges, she continued to work tirelessly to build a better Aotearoa New Zealand. A strong advocate for the environment, youth, women and the LGBTQ community, she leaves behind an incredible legacy and we thank her for her years of dedicated service and mahi.
Many of our members have shared their memories of Nikki with us, and we include the following words from Dame Jenny Shipley, that speak so beautifully to her impact.
“Nikki lived a life of service. She loved her people and they loved her. She was genuinely connected to her networks. She believed in and uplifted her causes. She was a builder and acted with a great sense of urgency as she knew she was living on borrowed time. Yet she was thoughtful and graceful as she looked ahead. Fly free, my dear friend.”
Rest in peace Nikki, we will miss you greatly. “Kua hinga he totara i te wao nui a Tane.” A totara has fallen in the forest of Tane.
