Congratulations to Global Women member Alison Andrew on her appointment to the Honorary Champions for Change list! Alison has been made an honorary Champion in recognition of her visionary leadership and long term advocacy for diversity in the workplace.
Alison is a fierce advocate for women and diversity, and was an early supporter of the ‘Panel Pledge’ – a Global Women initiative designed to elevate the visibility and contribution of women on public and professional forums. As a successful and prolific businesswoman, Alison leveraged her national and international influence to effect change, quickly earning a reputation for rejecting excuses of ‘we can’t find the right women’ when addressing the issue of underrepresentation.
Alison led Transpower for ten years before leaving the Chief Executive role in June this year. Under her guidance, Transpower carried out initiatives to address gender pay disparity, close the gender participation gap, and promote representation across all levels of the workforce.
During her time with Transpower, Alison was also a Global Women partner and Champion for Change. She spent four years as a member of the Champions for Change Governance Group, and was one of the Executive Sponsors of the Champions for Change ‘Influencing the Outside World’ workstream. Through this mahi, Alison engaged many non-Champion organisations in the power sector, demonstrating transformative leadership that advanced the goals of gender representation and diversity, equity and inclusion across Aotearoa New Zealand’s workforce.
We are delighted to celebrate Alison’s appointment as an Honorary Champion, and look forward to seeing her continue to exemplify and nurture courageous, inclusive leadership for Aotearoa New Zealand.
