Sue Bidrose

Chief Executive Officer, AgResearch

Sue was Dunedin City Council’s first woman CEO, a position she held and loved from 2013 until mid 2020. By the time she left, she had spent 15 years in Local Government – 10 years at Dunedin and the 5 years prior at Waitakere City Council in Auckland. Earlier positions included work in research, policy and delivery at the Ministry of Social Development, and many years in the not-for-profit sector, particularly working with young people and in mental health. In the middle of that she did a doctorate in Psychology, looking at the impact of trauma on young children’s development. Her first job out of school, though, was a laboratory technician looking at metabolic diseases of dairy cattle, which set the ground for her return to the Agri-science sector in July, when she joined AgResearch, incidentally as the first woman CEO of any of the seven Crown Research Institutes.
