Maria Johnson

Owner & Managing Director, Little School

Maria is the owner and Managing Director of private preschools in Wellington and Auckland.

She moved to Wellington after training as a Primary School teacher at Hamilton Teachers College and completed her Bachelor of Education at Waikato University. B.Ed, Dip. Teaching Primary. In 2006 she gained her Early Childhood qualifications from the New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education.

In 2011 Little School won two Regional Wellington Business Awards – Best Small to Medium Business and Wellington Business Woman of the year. In 2012 she was Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist and in the Next Women of the year awards she was an Education finalist

She has been an executive member of the Early Childhood Council (ECC) since 2008 and is currently the ECC president. She’s also president of Wellington Entrepreneurs Organisation, chairperson of Educa Board, and is on the national Board of the Life Education Trust.

Maria is passionate and ambitious about young children discovering their abilities and providing them with the knowledge, skills and values to make them lifelong learners. She continually aspires to be a leader in education and thoroughly enjoys this journey and feels extremely fortunate to work alongside a brilliant team of dedicated teachers at Little School. Together they aspire to be widely recognised leaders in preschool education.

She has four beautiful boys – Mathew, Joshua, Benjamin and Jacob (twins).
