In recognition of her accomplishments as chief executive at Auckland Airport, Global Women member and Champion for Change Carrie Hurihanganui has been named in Forbes Asia’s list of twenty Power Businesswomen 2024.
Under Carrie’s leadership, the airport is undertaking its most extensive expansion to date. The new integrated domestic terminal, expected to open by 2029, has been designed to streamline international connections, ease congestion and provide a more comfortable experience for travellers. Carrie has referred to the new development as a “resilient, fit for purpose gateway,” which will offer a transformative experience for travellers. The airport announced a $1.4billion equity raise in September, to help pay for the new development and reduce net debt.
With a background in sales and marketing, and having worked as an flight attendant during her years of study, Carrie spent over two decades working for Air New Zealand before being appointed chief operating officer in 2020. In February 2022, she made history as the first woman to step into the role of chief executive at Auckland Airport. Under her leadership, the airport has seen a 43% increase in revenue and a 17% increase in passenger numbers this year.
We are delighted to celebrate this global recognition of Carrie’s success, and look forward to continuing to work alongside her as a valued member and Champion.
