Congratulations to our member Abby Foote, who has been announced as the recipient of the New Zealand Shareholder Association’s prestigious Beacon Award for 2023.
Awarded in light of Abby’s approach to two specific issues in 2023, this prestigious honour is presented annually in recognition of the leadership, courage, and respect of an individual or team within the New Zealand business community. Abby is a full-time professional 
director with over 15 years governance experience, and a background in law and accounting.
Abby was selected for receipt of the Beacon due to the conviction and integrity of her stance on director independence at Sanford Limited, and her insightful strategic review of Christchurch City Holdings Limited (CCHL).
NZSA’s Beacon Award honours those who champion equitable outcomes, exemplary governance, and respect the rights of all shareholders. Abby’s actions at Sanford Limited reflect her steadfast dedication to principled leadership. Her strategic plan for CCHL promises enhanced returns for Christchurch City Council while allowing for more efficient capital funding for CCHL’s key assets.
This award celebrates Abby’s bravery in firmly upholding her beliefs and sharing them with stakeholders. Her willingness to challenge others, regardless of the results, is demonstrative of an impactful and effective leadership that champions inclusion of diverse viewpoints in decision-making processes.
