Tuakana teina sits at the centre of this hui. Each of us is tuakana to someone and teina to someone else\, and the strength of our network lies in how well we carry one another forward. \nWe open with pōwhiri and a welcome to the whenua\, then gather at Zealong Tea Estate. In 1996 its founder imported 1\,500 tea cuttings\, a crop nobody had grown successfully in this country. Only 130 survived quarantine. Every one of the 1.2 million plants on the estate today descends from them.
