2023 Global Women Annual Members Hui – 2040 Te Haerenga

Thursday May 11th – Saturday 13th May
Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Te Tai Tokerau

“Kua tawhiti kē tō haerenga mai, kia kore e haere tonu. He nui rawa ōu mahi, kia kore e mahi tonu”
— Tā James Henare

(we have come to far not to go further, we have done to much not to do more)

The year 2040 will mark 200 years since the signing of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi an important year for Aotearoa New Zealand.  It will also be nearly 150 years since women were given the right to vote, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in which all women had the right to vote.

As we look to the future it is right, we ground ourselves at Waitangi the birthplace of our nation and the place where much of New Zealand’s history was shaped through the signing on the Declaration of Independence – He Whakaputanga, in 1835 and the Te Tiriti o Waitangi in 1840.

The kaupapa has been carefully curated to prompt and sometimes even provoke thought, discussion and disagreement that leads us to question the status quo.  Turning up the volume relies on us asking ourselves poignant questions that none of us yet know the answer to, debating perspectives and trusting ourselves.

Alongside a blend of content comprised of business and social justice leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, thinkers, artists and sportspeople we welcome a very special guest Maya Soetoro-Ng.  She will share her story as an advocate, a woman of colour and the sister of the first African American US President Barack Obama.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Waitangi and the Bay of Islands.  Experience the manaaki of the people and the place we will travel across to Russell to the Duke of Marlborough Hotel for dinner it has been operating since 1827 – legally since 1840.  On the second night we will dine under the stars in a glass marquee on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

Please join us for this unique opportunity to turn up the volume on matters of importance:

— Our Sense of Nationhood— Our people, Our Place, Our Planet— Inclusive Prosperity— Healthy Women, Healthy World— Global Gender Equality
