This report looks at Board composition in 9 Asia-Pacific countries - Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea. Most valuable are pages 17 and 18, where they look at age and ethnic diversity on Boards, one of the few reports to do so. From page 27 is an analysis of trends in the region from 2010 - 2012.

NZX provide guidance on gender diversity policy, setting out suggestions for diversity policy content and examples of measureable objectives. It is astraightforward outline for every New Zealand Director to consider when designing gender policy for their organisation. While it focuses on gender, it is a good guide for incorporating other aspects of diversity policy.

This document from 2013 offers some demand side solutions from page 17, and supply solutions from page 20. Pages 17 and 18 are a strong commercial argument in favour of Board diversity. Page 25 onward is McAteer's Governance Gender Diversity Model.

The Politics and Practice of Counting: Ethnicity in Official Statistics in Aotearoa/New Zealand
Ethnicity Data Project - 2010

This is a valuable NZ document looking at issues and solutions to gathering ethnic diversity data, as well as the importance of obtaining it. Pages 2 to 10 are a worthy discussion on definitions, and objections people may have to being "counted" as specific groups. Pages 22 - 28 has examples of different processes and wordings used in various social sectors where ethnicity data is gathered, and would be a valuable starting point for organisations starting to gather this themselves.

Particularly relevant to NGOs and nonprofit organisations, this is a comprehensive toolkit for Boards that are starting their diversity conversation, developing policy and creating more effective governance. The appendices are most relevant to "New" New Zealand, starting on page 25 are exemplars of a Board Questionnaire, Diversity Policy, Board Evaluation Process, and a Composition Matrix to identify gaps on the current Board.

MSCI - November 2015

The study by market index provider MSCI, looked at more than 4,000 public companies around the world and found those with boardrooms featuring “strong female leadership” saw a 36.4% greater return on equity since the study began in 2009: 10.1% vs. a 7.4% return for the companies with a more male-dominated leadership.
